1500 Series
Full floater strength for the Ford 9″ and other big diffs, in the popular five-stud patterns from 5×4.5″ to 5×5.5″.
The 1500 Series is our most popular floater kit. Steel hubs, five stud patterns, and the widest choice of brake kits we offer. Hot rods to race cars: street, drag, circuit, speedway, rally. It’s not just a race part either: engineered to VSB14 for road registration with engineer approval, with supporting evidence for a 2500 kg GAWR, so it’s as at home under a tow rig or a loaded ute as it is under a race car. Plenty of customers run them at 2000 HP, and there’s a drag-and-drive car on this kit making 3600 HP, but for serious drag racing we’d point you at the 2500 Series.
Like any floater, it takes vehicle weight, braking and cornering loads off the axle and carries them through the hub, bearings and spindle, so the axle only has to transmit drive. Because the wheel is carried by the hub and bearings, not the axle, it stays on the car even if an axle ever lets go. And with the rotor running on a rigid, preloaded bearing setup, there’s far less brake pad knockoff under hard cornering.
Each kit covers both sides of the car and ships with bearings, studs and drive flanges fitted. Hub seals are supplied loose so you can grease the bearings before fitting them.
It comes two ways. The standard kit uses a slotted spindle nut and bend-over tab washer, with bearing preload set on the car the way you would a front wheel bearing. The upgraded kit replaces that with our locking system. Bearing preload is set in-house with a solid preload spacer, the spindle nut is drilled and tapped and locked with a chromoly locking ring, and button-head screws lock the ring and nut into a slot in the spindle. Do it up to 190 Nm with the supplied spindle nut tool and forget it.
Designed and manufactured in-house in Brisbane. CNC machined and hand-assembled under one roof, with full heat-number traceability on all raw materials and processes.
All kits include the following:
- Slimline hubs: steel on the standard kit, chromoly on the upgraded kit
- Spindles*: bare, or an optional flanged upgrade for easy brake fitment
- Drive flanges
- Timken bearings, installed
- Hub seals
- Wheel studs installed to suit
- Left- and right-hand thread spindles and nuts, so they can’t work loose
- End caps in black or red
- All bolts, washers and O-rings needed to complete the build
- Standard kit: slotted spindle nuts and tab washers
- Upgraded kit: preload set in-house on solid spacers, steel-cased seals, drilled and tapped spindle nuts, chromoly locking rings and spindle nut tool
Options:
Locking system: standard | upgraded
Stud pattern: 5×4.5″ | 5×120mm | 5×4.75″ | 5×5″ | 5×5.5″
5×5″ and 5×5.5″ on the upgraded kit only.
Spline: 28 | 30 | 31 | 35
The drive flange is splined to match the wheel end of your axles. 28, 30 and 31 are 24/48 DP, 45° pressure angle; 35 is 30°. A 30° and a 45° spline with the same count look similar but are not the same, and will not go together. Standard kit in 28 and 31 only.
| Spline | OD | Fits | Not the same as |
|---|---|---|---|
| 28 | Ø30.7 | Ford 9″ small bearing, Ford 8″, Ford 8.8″ 28-spline, GM 10-bolt, BorgWarner 28 (Falcon EB–AU, BA–BF non-turbo, Commodore VN–VZ V6) | Mazda RX-4 / RX-5 13B, Honda S2000 (both Ø29) |
| 30 | Ø32.8 | Toyota Hilux / LandCruiser, GM 12-bolt, GM 8.5″ 10-bolt | BorgWarner M86 (Falcon BA–FG, Crewman), Dana 30/35/44, Chrysler 8¾″ (all 30° PA). GM 14-bolt (bigger shaft) |
| 31 | Ø33.8 | Ford 9″ big bearing, Ford 8.8″ 31-spline, BorgWarner 31 upgrade | Nissan Patrol H233 (Ø32) |
| 35 | Ø38.1 | Dana 60/70, aftermarket Ford 9″ big-spline (30° PA) | Ford 10.25″/10.5″ 35-spline. Mark Williams MW spline spools and centres (45° PA); their std/Dana-style 35 spline fits |

VT–VZ bracket fitting tool: optional. Holds the caliper bracket square to the spindle while you tack and weld it. Add it to any VT–VZ kit, or buy it on its own.
Engineering note: GAWR figures cover the caliper mounting only. They don’t verify that the brakes suit your vehicle: check that with your engineer. Wheel clearance drawings are on the downloads page.
Not ordering brakes yet? No problem. Choose the spindle to suit the brakes you plan to run and we can sort the brakes later.
Drum brakes? We can do those too. Contact us for details.
